Hey everyone,
I just purchased an AI prime for my eheim aqua style 9 gallon reef. I am trying to figure out a schedule and I am looking for advice. I just have lps and some softies(zoas, gsp) for now, the light is 8 inches above the tank. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Hi bbren98,
Welcome to reef2reef!!!! I just put one on my 65 gallon SPS tank in the back rear right corner and love it!!! My tank has had a Reefbreeders32 Photon over it for over 2 years and it grows SPS really nice.
I decided to try one of the Primes as both my back corners are not bright enough for my SPS. So I wanted to add some more frags to those spots.
I love the Prime. Its a amazing little light and the color it puts off is fantastic. A much crisper white due to the 10K white leds.
I would recommend acclimation mode for at least a month. This will bump it up one point/watt a day. I am up to 18 watts now and have another 2 weeks to go before it gets to my max of 50%. Which is 25 watts for this light, as the max is 50 watts.
I have a PAR meter and can give you some numbers if you need them. Make a 4 hour ramp up and 4 hour ramp down. Your mid 4 hours will be your peak light. The Prime will compute it for you and ramp the wattage up slowly and down slowly. You just set your peak. I would make your peak at 40%, so you will start at half that in acclimation mode if memory serves me correct. It will them over whatever time period you set(lets say a month) it will ramp up to that max over 30 days or so.
You can fry everything in that tank with this little light. It is that powerful!!! So have patience and watch it acclimate up to the peak of 40%
Does this help??

Wow thank you so much so I should have a 4 hour ramp up time to my peak at 40 percent and then a four hour ramp down from that peak and the rest of the time the lights should be off correct? Thanks again

For my peak would these numbers be alright 20% for cool white, deep blue, and blue and 5% for red, green, violet, and uv.

Hi,
Yes thats what I would do. When you flip the acclimation mode switch to "on" you can take it from there. A 40% max will start the acclimation mode at 20%. You can also go from auto to manual and set a color intensity with the dial. from 5000k all the way up to 20K. For your corals I would go 14k or up. Your personal taste in color will guide you.
Also, remember to go back to automatic mode and then dashboard. Once your in the dashboard, the Schedual will light up with a green or blue rim around it. This confirms that its set up and running on your schedual. Then you can log out.
If the schedual mode is not lit up and you log out, the mode your in will not run and you'll be scratching your head wondering why its not coming on automatically.
Just run in acclimation mode for now. You can check into it each day and watch the peak wattage go up 1 watt every few days. Log in then go to manual mode. It will display the wattage its running at. You will noice it increase to the date you set it to end on your schedual. Really slick! I love mine.
Have patience. ONLY BAD THINGS HAPPEN FAST IN THIS HOBBY. You will be rewarded with a beautiful tank! Hope this helps and keep us posted!!!

Also, this light is blinding bright. At 8 inches above your tank you can fry everything if your not careful. This is why acclimation mode is soooooo important. Take advantage of it and use it. Its a great tool.
