So the YWG I've had for a few weeks now appears to have slowly gotten worse in qt with a bacterial infection around his head. Still eats as food floats by but isnt too active. He is 1 of 4 fish in there and the copper level is already therapeutic at 2.0
Confused with antibitocs as there are to omany options and directions for dosing
Can I keep the copper levels up, I do have an air stone going an an ammonia alert badge?
What antibitocs exactly and how to I dose? How many times, how long, how much etc?
Help me help the little guy he looks miserable

Ciprofloxacin or Enrofloxacin would be best, but those are best administered via a 1-hour bath treatment. They also are not easy meds to source.

A 90 minute bath using Ruby Reef Rally should help, and then I would followup by dosing one of the following in the QT:
  1. NFG
  2. Kanaplex
  3. Neoplex
  4. Sulfaplex or API Triple Sulfa
All of the above are wide spectrum ABX, and should help with this issue.

Out of the above mentioned just chose one? I know somewhere said a triple whammy with like 3 different ones. How do you dose to the tank with copper in it?seems the directions said dose do WC then run carbon if I remember right.

Any one best/safest to run concurrent with copper?
I plan on deworming with metro and focus as well but not until after antibiotic treatment for the infection.

The link says kanaplex furan 2 and metro all together that's where I'm getting confused

Here is a quote that answers that question directly from humblefish here:

"You can technically combine copper & NFG, but expect side effects (appetite suppression, lethargy) to increase. For some reason, NFG seems to work best as a standalone treatment whereas the trifecta (Furan-2 + Kanaplex + Metroplex) seems to mix easier with copper or Chloroquine. But anytime you combine that many meds, its not going to be easy on the fish."

Hope this helps and I hope your little guy gets better soon!

Thank you. Still unsure if I should just use kanaplex as above he stated any one of the following but then in the link it mentions the trifecta.

Whatever you decide you should do it sooner then later. Pick a treatment plan and get moving, if you don't you wont have a fish to do a treatment plan on. Any option is better chance then what he has now. Good luck and again I hope your little guy a quick recovery. Just remember that the more meds you throw at this guy the harder it is on him so if it was me I think I would do the Ruby Red, and one of the Antibiotics he mentioned since you already have them in copper.

How long has the copper been at 2.0?

Also do the other fish in the qt have to be dipped with really reef since they show no signs or just the sick guy. Meds dosed to the tank would obviously tree all 4 fish.

About a week now, raised it over 6 days and had him copper free for the first week or 2.

I would start Kanaplex now, and then on Day 10 move him out of copper and into a different QT. Then hit him with the trifecta. Copper suppresses the immune system, and a fish won't make a full recovery from a bacterial infection until he's out of copper.

Kanaplex should at least zap any harmful bacteria in the water column and prevent this from spreading.

Ok I already have metroplex on board, I ordered furan2 and kanaplex off amazon prime so theyll be here Tuesday. Ruby reef really isn't on prime so itll take longer to get here. Obviously start the kanaplex the day it arrives. Then should I do the bath when the ruby reef rally arrives in the middle of the kanaplex?
Should I just remove copper now? The bacterial infection didnt show until I ramped up copper. I can drop in some cuprisorb and do wc while I wait for the kanaplex to get here. I can also feed metro and focus if you think that'll help while I wait.

I would do the Rally bath just before you transfer the goby into QT#2.

If none of the other fish are showing signs of infection, I would keep copper going for the rest of them.

Well he didnt make it, started the kanaplex Tuesday night but he mustve had too much damage already. I'm assuming he had something brewing at the lfs that reared its ugly head after introducing copper, maybe if I had the ruby reef rally on hand it wouldve helped. At least I'll have it stocked now going forward.
As for the other 3 in qt showing no signs of illness, I should continue the kanaplex treatment as preventative right? No need for the trifecta thoigh unless they show signs of infection?

Yes, to kill any harmful free floating bacteria in the water which could infect one of the other fish.
