So I finally installed my AF-1 filter roller last night. Went to bed happy. This morning I go to check on it and discover it has rolled out the entire roll overnight. After watching it closely, what is happening is that it gets just a very little detritus in it and that is enough to raise the level of the water inside to trip the float valve and roll it forward. I have the unit mounted 1.5 inches below the water line from the top of the intake as suggested. My only thought as to why this would happen would be if I had too much flow going through it, but it says it's rated for 1350 gph. My return pump is a mag 18 with 6 feet of head which should be putting out only about 1050 gph. When it first starts out, the water inside the chamber is about an inch above the water in the sump and then as stated it takes almost no detritus to make the water level rise to the point it flips the float valve. When I look at the spent roll, it is literally all still white. Any ideas what is going on?

I can’t answer the specific question, but I can bump the thread to see if we can get you some help

I have been Running the AF-1 and love it. You will need to raise it up some. Here is how I have mine set and I am running about 1400 got through it. Roll lasts a month or more depending on how Much I feed

Thanks for the reply. I have not had a good experience with mine. I have it almost completely out of the water. I have a mag 18 return pump with about 6 feet of head, so it only puts out about 1000 gph. With it wide open the roll only lasts about 2 days. I have had to cut it back to about 500 gph to get it to last about a month. Maybe I have a bad batch of fleece. It's not like my tank is really dirty. I run a massive dual becket skimmer and only feed once a day. If I could get my flow through it up then it would be a perfect product.

This is why I stopped using mine. Rolls only lasted me 8 days. Not worth it. I tried to re adjust the height and flow. I gave it a year, trying different rolls of paper from other manufacturers. If I slowed the flow down too much, the bracket holders would get too saturated with waste and would fall back into the tank. I never found the sweet spot for those fleece rolls.
