Getting back into the hobby after 25 years, definitely a lot of changes!! Would love feedback on this aquascape for a 100 g. Is about 15” tall, 16” deep

Thank you! I’m excited to move it into the tank. Also I’ve read a lot about securing structures with epoxy it superglue. Do you feel this is an absolute “must”? The way the rock is set up it seems to sit really securely.

Looks great! If you feel it is secure I wouldn't worry too much about it. My rock structure is about 2x the width in height and I have no problems, but consider securing if you'll be keeping bigger fish that could bump into the rocks.

Ok thanks! It doesn’t feel precarious so I’ll probably go with no epoxy.

If you like what you have, leave it be for several days, dont look at it and dont think about it at all. Come back to it after that time, and look. Odds are there will be things that you dont like and want to change. Getting scape that you really like and that is functional can take week(s) to accomplish.

Also, arches. For some reason everyone that aquascapes for the 1st time always goes for arches ( I did this myself lol) but they are very unnatural. You wont find arches in wild. You will find caves, crevices, rocks on top of rocks, lots of hiding spaces for fish. Arches dont do any of that. Int he scape you have now, there are no hiding spaces at all for fish, which is what you want.

Finally, once you put corals in there, you wont even be able to see what your scape looks like, so build what is functional for fish and corals you plan to have.

Definitely secure it. I didn't with mine, and snails move the rocks slightly, then flow from powerheads slowly push the rocks slightly... now, things are too loose.

It looks like caribesea liferock arches but I could be wrong
Yes it’s from Caribe Sea pieces. A conbino

Thanks for the advice! I have been playing with it for several weeks and ended up landing on they’d cause I wanted plenty of swimming spaces. It’s a combination of arches and base pieces, I did have some caves originally but wasn’t sure I liked it much. I may play a bit more with it in that regard.

Idoc, any advantage between epoxy vs super glue? I see a lot of posts recommending super glue but it seems like the porosity might not allow a secure bond?

What I see:

A left side structure with 2 bases. (Or am I wrong, and the bigger base is composed of 2 base pieces? If so, connect them.)
A right side structure with 3 bases.

I would fasten within each of the two structures. They are then self standing, quite heavy, and won't be moved by even the largest engineering gobie.

Lastly, to me this LOOKS "minimal" which is fine and looks great. Minimal might mean 60-70lbs of rock or so. If minimal, I would compensate with a lot of rock in my sump or some ceramic block. You will otherwise be messing with GFO/refugium/carbon dosing to compensate.

Super glue GEL with accelerator. Without accelerator it will take eons to build. Here are 40 pieces assembled over 2-3 hours with glue/accelerator. Just under 36 lbs total.

I like that idea ScottB. And you are correct about the combination of base pieces and arches. I had a feeling I might be a little bit lean on rock when I purchased them, but wanted to wait until I get them placed in the tank and not have it cluttered up with so much rock there’s not much room for fish or corals. The hobby has changed so much in the last 20 years I feel like I’m learning all over again.

Nice platform piece! Do you happen to know if this is reef safe?
