Noticed this yesterday morning. Was not bleached like the the day before. Happened fast. Any idea suggestions?

Rapid tissue necrosis RTN

Cut the remaining good parts off it and they might have a chance. If you leave it alone most of the time they will be dead within a few days. You probably has a swing in your parameters. Birdsnest can be really sensitive to alk and nutrient changes.

Personally I would bring your qlk down to 8. You will have way less issues running it closer to NSW levels

How would I target alk to bring it down without effecting other parameters? I dose 2 ml of polylabs ONE daily for 16 gallons. I do 15% weekly water change with reef crystals.

As someone stated above. Your Alk is pretty high especially considering how low your nitrates are. Here at our farm we keep our Alk around8.3 and our nitrates around 15. Maybe slow down on your dosing until you get it to the desired level. I would continue with the water changes as I doubt your salt mix mixes at 13 Alk so that may help lower it as well.

Thanks. Will do. Today I'd water change day. And I haven't changed dosing yet. My calcium has gone from 460 to 380 in 7 days. The alk is still high. Nitrates still low. Ph reads a steady 8.2 on the morning. Should I try a different dosing system?

OK. So I went back threw the polylabs ONE directions. I'm dosing properly but I'm testing at the wrong time. I've been testing not long after I dose the tank when I'm pretty sure I should be testing right before.
I did a 20% water change today and tested 1 hrs. Later.
Ph - 8.2
Calcium - 420
Kh - between 120-180
Nitrate - 5

I'm ordering new salifert testing kits tomorrow for more accurate results.
I only had that one issue so far with the hyacinth birdsnest. All other coral seem to be doing amazing. Maybe I can figure this out better with better testing supplies.

Seems we immediately began to focus on alkalinity, and indeed 13 is abnormally high and i try for mid 9’s and some think that is too high.
But just as an aside while not by any means an seasoned SPS guy, I have been able to do well with most SPS of late. However the one birds nest that seems to be doing well in my tank right now is the first of about five for me. I understand it’s an extremely hardy Genus and stated to be good for beginners, but it is never been good for me.
Till this one anyway.

Thanks. Makes me feel a little better. I have a panope that's doing great. It was just the hyacinth bn that wasn't happy. It may be to close to the light as well. I had it at my topmost point. Thanks again.
