So I came home yesterday and noticed one head of my torch closed up and it really looked a lot like brown jelly disease. Was hoping for the best but today the entire head is gone done turned to jelly and disappeared. Is there anything I can do to save the rest of the torch coral? I haven’t added anything to the tank in 3-4 months and everything else seems to be ok. What causes this? And how can I prevent it from happening again?

We've gotten BJD in several tanks at work, not only on Euphyllia but Acropora and Stylopora as well. Only thing to stop it what I know of is to cut and throw away all infected parts, plus a couple of extra centimetres non infected.

Don't know for sure why brown jelly disease starts, but I've noticed it has come a couple of times after I've vacuumed or stirred the sand(in one tank). Other times it has started when corals grew very close, and maybe stressed each other. But again, only theorys:)

I see a clownfish in that picture, did the clownfish host the torch. That could have stressed out the torch causing the issue. I would cut the branch back as far as you can and maybe dip the torch in revive or something that can help with infections or to prevent infections.

No it’s actually a pair of clowns and they have an anemone that they host.

I’ve heard some folks have used chemiclean with success once brown jelly shows up.
