I just walking in from work and looked at my tank and I noticed one of my midnight clowns has an eye that is kind of bulging out and cloudy. Can anyone tell me what's wrong with it?

Causes are either physical injury, secondary bacterial infection from injury or significant water quality issues with or without bacterial infection.

Test your water and perform appropriate water changes.

If it a physical injury/trauma it may resolve on it's on.

To be safe I would treat with the appropriate medication @Humblefish or @melypr1985.

The fish looks a little rough, is another clown or fish picking on this fish?

Yea the physical injury could be a possibility. I have a pair of midnight and a pair of onyx percs. On the parameters the only thing out of wack is my phosphates which are .06, nitrates are 0 to 5. I just did a 20% water change Saturday evening.

If it's just one eye, that denotes an injury that has gotten infected. The infection can and will spread to the other eyes. If left alone, it could cause the fish to lose his sight. We'll want to treat the poor baby. It's best if you can move him to a QT and dose the tank with Kanaplex or Furan 2. I prefer kanaplex in this case. You'll treat for 10 days straight (following the directions on the package) and then assess his condition... further treatment may be needed to kick the infection completely.

Yeah but there are different remedies. Like Epsom salt for Popeye and other meds for infection. That's what I was getting at but yes that is correct

Also I'm in the process of moving my qt tank because I build a stand for it, would it hurt if I put all new saltwater in there? Or would that not have enough bacteria to be stable?

That's fine. the bacteria is stored in the filter... normally a sponge that can hold a lot of bacteria. You can do a 100% water change and be fine as long as the filter sponge doesn't dry out.

I read online that you can medicate with the furan 2 and kanaplex at the same time for better results. If I do that, do I put in in at the same time? Because the kanaplex says to dose every other day and the furan 2 says every 24 hours

Yes and you can add metroplex to the mix for the widest spectrum antibiotic we know of. Save this for very bad or very difficult infections though. Yes you do them all at the same time. You have to use each as directed on the package which can get complicated. I write on the tank when the next dose of what is due. It helps keep me straight. Reminders on your cell phone my be better than that though.

Thank you for the help, I haven't had many sick fish.
