Hey all, I got a mushroom, pulsing Xenia and one other LPS, I forget the name from a LFS today. I have a few other corals that are doing very well in my tank, but these are from a different store. So I went to dip them using sea hem’s reef dip. I used this on all my other corals no issue. But these corals released a TON of creepy crawlies. So I dipped them again like the instructions said, and EVEN MORE creepy things came out of the corals. I’m too nervous to put them in the tank cause I don’t want to introduce them in my tank. As of now they are still in he bucket with the dip. I didn’t know what to do, my QT tank is currently treating sick fish with copper, so I can’t put them in there. Anyone know what to do??? I tried to get a picture of all the nasties that came out but a lot are hard to see in the camera lens.

Can’t tell much by pic. Get a flashlight maybe and shine in bucket while you take pics. When you say creepy crawly’s , are they moving? Or just debris and specks coming off the frags into water/dip column ….?

I see a worm, might be common bristle worm…?
* If dip water looks really dirty after dip I would highly recommend QT frags for a bit.

Take them out of dip and put in tank water(separate from the tank). Even if it’s just 5 gallons until you decide next move

Still no bueno on pic. Do you have a white bucket? The HD or look alike orange/red bucket makes it hard to see. But I’m getting old eyes so maybe just me.
HD = Home Depot

Unfortunately the orange bucket is all I have. There are like 4 worm looking things, a bunch of things that look like tiny spiders and other dark colored dots that are moving. Like everything that came off the corals is moving around in the bucket.

Definitely transfer from dip water to a container of established tank and acclimated water. Plan on QT’ing until you know what you’re dealing with. It’s not worth taking a shortcut because you might be regretting in a month.

You got clear container? Like one that is made for aquariums and latches on top?

If so you can keep it in the water to keep temp and observe. Need to watch out for salinity if it’s for a long period of time as you observe…

I would recommend you grabbing one of these for the future. They are cheap and come in different sizes. (Used to be)…. Gives you time to observe frags pre/after dip. I even put frag plugs into a container like this after I remove the frag.(if possible).. I dip frag and place. Then I can still observe (even though it’s probably too late) what was on the plug. So I dip the frag but not the frag plug if possible. Just helps narrow down and gives me a better idea on how taint certain frags our from each source.

Ah okay I will get one from my regular LFS tomorrow, but in the mean time I will transfer it. And yeah I don’t want these in my tank and bringing those creep things in my DT!! Thank You for the help!

Your last commit hits the nail on the head. Don’t want those creepy crawlies in your DT. Make sure Temp and Salinity hold steady in QT tank/ container…

You can dump that dip water into a kitchen food container that’s clear or glass, if you have one. That would possibly help identify the creepy crawlies.

Will do! I have a small heater l have for acclimation in the buckets or to warm water for a water change, so l got that covered! Thank you. I just wasnt sure if any more would come out and my gut said there is probably a lot of creepies in there still!!

+Eggs from creepy crawlies that might take a few weeks to hatch. Mainly on frag plugs…
