Good evening guys,

I've had my reef tank for about a year now. About 6 months ago my tank was covered with hair algae but a few months ago I was able to get rid of all the hair algae. But now it seems that some time of dark red algae is starting to spread in the live rock and is starting to creep up in some of the corals. The algae seems really easy to get of from the rocks it just peels off.

Is there something I can do to make it stop from spreading and growing back?

Thanks for the help....

Yuppers that is a genus of cyanobacteria (how did I miss this?)
Avoid stirring it. Only siphon it gently.
If it's cylindrospermum it is easy but if it's spirulina it's a little more difficult.

I have this in small areas of my tank. Does it do harm or does it just bother some people?my tank is about 6 most old. Little algae is a natural thing.

Cyno is a problem a lot of us face .. how's the flow in the affected areas . More flow will help !

Someone recommend using Chemiclean. What do you guys think about using that?

I hear a lot about vibrant on here .. I'm gonna give it a try next time ,but I've just managed too get rid of my cyno ..so I'm good for now
