Im planning on building my own light for a 48"24"24" tank. Im planning on 80 3w chips 4 channels 20 per channel. Meanwell ldd 1000h drivers 48v 350w power supply and connected to my ghl control.I've never built anything like this before so my question is going by my rough plan would that work ok.
Any help is appreciated thankks

Many of us are in the US, so you were posting in the middle of the night :)

The plan looks OK to me. Those drivers are use a 5VDC PWM dimming signal. Just make sure that's what your controller outputs. I'd need to see the spec sheets on the LEDs to know if the rest is right.

Let's see....

At 3.8Vf, you'll need just over 76VDC from your driver for 20 series LEDs. Your power supply maxes out at 48V, so that won't work. The most you could have is 12 per string. I'm going to stop there since other changes will affect the rest of the calculations.

I dont mind upping the power supply and adding extra drivers
OK, let's assume 12 LEDs per string. The LDD1000H tops out at 52VDC output, which is 13 LEDs. With 12 LEDs, you will need a 48VDC supply, which you already have. I'd suggest going to something a little bigger so you aren't operating at the top end. Let's continue from there....

12 LEDs at 700 mA with 4 strings is 2.8A. That is 132W of power. Well within your power supply's 350W.

EDIT: You can still add a fifth string to get to your total of 80 LEDs if you want to and the power would be OK.

Hey Paul,

I'm using 32 LDD drivers on our light & running 13x 3w LED's on each string.
If you using 80 LED's you'll need 7 LDD's in total. I've just swapped out boards similar to those you posted if you need some.
What LED's & colours are you going to use?

How many boards do you have 2 of the 5 driver boards would be good
