I’m having a brain fart today and for some reason I can’t figure this out (Salifert test kits):

3/31:

Alk: 8.6
Cal: 445

4/5:

Alk: 7.2
Cal: 425

So, in 5 days I am at -1.40 dkh Alk and -20 ppm Cal.

My current daily dosing is:

Red Sea Alk: 8.04 ml
Red Sea Cal: 2.75

Total tank volume: 30 gallons

So I’m order to increase my daily dosing to match the daily requirement will it be: +.28ml per day (total 8.32 ml Red Sea Alk) and +2 ml (total 4.75 ml cal)? Does this seem correct? TIA

*My understanding is that .4 dkh Alk for every 2.7 ppm Cal.
*Just added a CO2 scrubber hence the increase

Total tank volume?

You might want to get a better, more accurate alk test kit such as a Hanna checker. What do you have for corals?

Thanks. I just has questions as far as how much Alk and cal I should be dosing/adjusting my doser. Corals:

Since you're numbers are still "good," and your volumes are relatively low, I'd simply slowly raise the alk/calc numbers by increasing your volumes. A good start point is to start adding 11 mls of alk and 5 mls of calc. Test and adjust as needed. Not sure of your targets, so HERE's a reef calculator that you might find of interest. It does include the Red Sea products.

Ok, thank you. I just did a WC and will be slowly raising the levels up.

Target values:

Alk: 8.6-9 dkh

What app is that ?

It’s called Aquarimate

* I found my answer. I didn’t do my math right. So, as of right now my daily maintenance dosing will be 11.12 ml of Red Sea Alk and 4.75 ml of Red Sea Cal

There you go. What are you dosing and are they big colonies in your tank?

Test kits are VERY important. If you have a bad test kit, your numbers will be off and you will end up dosing more causing an alk spike which will kill everything. How long will it take you to kill $50 in coral that could’ve been avoided by a good test kit?

I am dosing Red Sea Reef Foundation A, B and C. The SPS in the tank are frags and have noticeably gotten bigger recently. I’ve than added a CO2 scrubber a few weeks after I installed a Apex (about 2-3 days ago). I was monitoring PH and my highest PH for the day will be 7.9ish and will dip to 7.6ish at night. So, I ran my skimmer intake to a window to draw fresh air and I was getting 8.0-8.1 during the day and 7.7-7.8 at night. Added CO2 scrubber and now I am sitting at 8.2ish and 8.0 at night.

I have been thinking about getting a Hanna Checker and saw a few for sale in the for sale section but they’re gone fast.

Don’t worry about ph. Anything above 7.8 is fine. Hanna checkers are they way to go
