I just got back from my lfs after taking him a water sample. He said my salinity was between 1.025-1.026. My hydrometer must need cleaned out. I'll be investing in a refractometer asap.
Thanks for all the helpful insight. I was just a little panicked something was going wrong with my tank. You guys know how us newbs can be right. :sorry:

We've all panicked over things in our tanks before! Actually, you did everything just right! A lot of people would have panicked and started adding salt. You took the time to get advice and figure out the actual problem, instead of trying to quickly fix something, possibly making it much worse! Congrats on making the right decision!

Just regular vinegar? How long should it soak. Should it be diluted at all.

Yup just regular old vinager can add some straight in it. Or soak in it. Can dilute if u wish but then It takes longer.
U will eventually be soaking pumps etc in vinager to clean them so recommend getting it in bulk.

Also just about any one stiking with it for a while gets a refractor. They are more accurate (properly calibeated) and quite frankly faster and easier to use. But it is good to have a good accurate alternate device to quickly baseline check the refractor. As they do get out of calabration. Espicaly when ones kid gets ahold of it.

As for the vinegar just rinse when clean. And cen stick it back in the tank.
Many have added vinager to Ther kalkwasser to increase the solution concentration. So don't be worried about a couple drops of vinager geting into the tank.

Btw good work questioning your tools and geting a second opinion.
