Okay so I got this favia about a month ago. When I first saw it it was very healthy. About a month later when I went in to buy it, I saw that it had been stung by mother coral. My question is should I cut off the dead skeleton or just leave it? It’s been a month in my tank and it seems like there’s no new growth. Instead it seems that the dead portion is expanding. Here are some pics.

If you don't notice any tissue recession I would leave it be. A favia should be cut with a coral saw and someone experienced using it. Try giving it an iodine based dip. If it keeps receding I'd bring it to a store to have them cut it properly.

Okay thank you.

Also, what kind of iodine dip would you recommend?

So this is the current situation. Just did an iodide dip. Any thoughts on what could be causing the tissue recession?

I would definitely leave it. If it’s continuing to recede in the same spot, could be some kind of bacterial infection or just the prior tissue recission continuing. A healthy coral in a healthy environment should be able to recover easily from something like that.
