hey guys whats up. i have a 75 gallon reef thats been up for over a year now. I have a small hippo tang and small flame angel in the tank with a scooter blennie. i added the flame and hippo together about 3 months ago.those are my only fish as of now and both are extremely healthy. i started to focus on corals. my question is that i really like the powder blue tangs a lot and was wondering if it would get along with the other tank mates, i do run a pretty strong uv sterilizer and dose marine max once a week for keeping ich away. stuff is absolutely amazing by the way. im upgrading to a 225 in about a year from now.oh and my water params are in check and stable. what do you guys think?

to my knowledge they are aggressive fish and would chase the powder blue tang around for a while but I don't see why they couldn't get along but my best advise is to get the fish when you upgrade to the 225, they wont show any aggression to each other, besides setting their boundaries and territories for each other, due to everyone being new the tank. just my 2cents

makes sense thank you. i want to add more fish to this system i only have two. what suggestions do you have? i just dont want anything to fight with what i have

hmm
you have a lot of options with the tank you have.
ever thought of a midas blenny
or some kind of wrasse i.e canary, melanarus, flashers
you have room some serious diversity

PBTs are aggressive, I would worry more about your hippo

yea the hippo is tiny still. i was looking at the yellow eyed cole tang. pretty fish dont really know much about it tho. i want more fish but im really trying to avoid fighting. i was looking at a pair of maroon clowns but i havent heard the greatest things about them.

no maroons if you want peace lol
yellow eyed may be perfect they aren't similar to either of the fish you already have so i don't see any problems!

well if the PBT is slightly larger than the hippo and flame angle when you put them into your system then he shouldn't be picked on to much since he would be able to stand his ground, IK ive have helped a few ppl in the past with this kinda stuff but you never know whats going to happen due to their personalities. you could always try getting a wrasse also, theyre pretty quick and agile to escape fights.as well as to help clean the tank with any unwanted parasites. A cleaner wrasse will help your fishes stay healthy, 6-line will help clean out copepods/amphipods or my favorite, which will still do some work on unwanted pods but as well as knock out some other unwanted worms such as flatworms, is a leopard wrasse.

very true i never really looked at wrasses. ill have to check them out. if you guys had a choice would pick the kole tang or the pbt. the pbt is such a appealing fish. but im not going to make a stupid exspensive mistake. i know about the whole ice thing ive dealt with it enough lol i got it down how to beat it lol.

Well if your in this hobby your tank becomes your baby and you like to show it off to guests, ik I ended up talking about it some way or another haha I would defiantly go for a pbt over a kole tang, they are so much more appealing to the eye

absolutely we all put alot of time money and pride into these tanks. its a extremely addicting hobby lol. i figured if im going to spend the money im going to do it right. i stay up with my maintenance daily. a buddy of mine has a 90g reef and wow its unreal. lottttt of money into this thing one of the most amazing tanks i ever seen not just because hes my friend. he as a 4 year old pbt and a 4year old hippo tang and they do awesome together but he added at the same time when they were babies. i just hope my hippo and well that flame angel dont fight cause or territory issues.

ok i have a 187 and have upgraded several times. i agree that the best time to add is when you upgrade because they are all new to the area. That doesn't mean tangs won't fight. i have 16 fish. i love my midas blenny, so thats one that was mentioned. I have a yellow tang, hippo tang, purple tang and a naso tang. the yellow was first purple second. they still tussle a little but mostly get along. the hippo came from a tank where he was getting beaten badly and looked like rocky in rocky 4, no web left on the back fin. he now looks beautiful great coloration and his webbing greaw back totally. they all get a long fine. I put the naso which is half again bigger than anyone of the other three. they all looked at the naso and said OMG it huge with big spikes on his tail i'm not screwing with him. lol. i had a flame angel then i put a coral beauty in. the flame kicked his butt for 3 days, then one day the coral ducked one of his from the bottom attacks and the flame cleared the tank, the coral looked over and yelled sucker:) we found the coral swimming happily and the flame dry and stiff on the floor. each fish has its own personality, naturally you don't put a purcula in with a lion but some fish that fight in others tanks doesnt mean that the one you get will fight. pleanty of room matters so a 225 will give them space.

I think im going to lean away from the powder blue. seem like to much of a risk. been doing some research and looking around i like the looks and reviews on the mimic lemonpeel tang.havent really found anything negative about them. any ideas?
