So I have an Innovative Marine 112 Int which has dimensions of 36"x36"x19" with an infinity overflow on the back. I am having trouble figuring how I want to do flow in the tank. I know I want to go heavy on the Acros and so far I have some that are growing from frags. I am just not satisfied with my current powerhead set up. Currently, I have two Coral Box RP-M's one on each side on the overflow and an Icecap 1k sitting under the return. The icecap is creating some annoying microbubbles I think because it sits right under the return which uses two VCA Flow nozzles. Due to the dimension of the tank which is a giant square (which I love btw), it's kinda set up like a peninsula. I was thinking of putting some Vortech MP40's on the tank but not sure how many to go with and I hate to ruin the views on the side. Any input or suggestions anyone has would be appreciated! I hope I put this in the right thread section. Below are some pics of the tank and rock setup.

I would think 2 mp40 on the back wall would do well. It’s only 36” front to back. I can feel flow from 1 mp40 on the other side of my 6’ tank.

I wish I could but the overflow covers the full panel of glass on the back wall. The only reason powerheads are on their now is because their magnets can be submerged in the water.

If those are not MP40s generally pumps have identical magnets inside and outside, so you can submerge outside magnets into the water. Just check to make sure the magnets look the same.

If I were to put one MP40 on each side of the tank do you think that would be enough flow on a 36x36 tank or would you recommend more?

not familiar with that tank layout/design.

Sounds like tunze or gyres are in your future then

My tank is 36x36x16. I can tell you mp40's on the sides just don't cut it, but for the back wall, they are perfect. I initially had 4 mp40's, two on the back and two one the sides. The patterns and random flow were great, but I was hitting things on the sides with a pretty focused stream/flow, so I decided to try gyres on the sides and keep the mp40's on the back wall and voila, presto! The laminar flow produced by the gyres changed everything and really opened up the sides for better viewing. The issue I had was controlling them, an app for one and a hardware controller for the other, it just made it very difficult to change flow and sync everything, then I bought the Hydros wave engine, and oh my, it's awesome for syncing and controlling my vortechs and gyres under one controller. All I can say is my sps have responded to the change of flow in a very positive way.

I also use two 3/4" RFG's on my returns, so there's a lot of flow. It sucks having wires in the tank, but my side view is so much better than when I had the vortechs on the sides.
