Acro. Sps. Looks bleached. I look up any coral or frag on my phone right at the store just so I know what it is and how to care for it or if it will even live with my setup. Keeping Acropora Corals - Animal-World
Yes, I bought it. Only $10. But the lady who sold it to me admitted she didn't know what it was and I didn't either. She is learning saltwater just like I am. The owner wasn't there for me to talk too. Well, I guess I will leave it for awhile and see what happens. Lesson learned for me. I didn't know there was not a white one.
Deffinitly dead and not bleached IMO. You can see the translucent looking white at the very top branch down to the bottom. Even with a bleached sps coral they tend to have a faded out look rather than just super white. Watch it and if it starts growing algae all over it here shortly you can confirm that it is in deed dead.
My guess of what may have happened here is this-
As the person you bought it from is just learning as well - they bought a coral they were not yet equipt to care for. This coral may have looked awesome not to long ago when 1st purchased and as the system wasn't ready to host it properly it slowely/quickly declined and soon looked the way it does now - leaving the owner wanting to get rid of it now that it didn't look the same as when 1st started(and maybe not knowing that they killed it??) JIMO and a good probability sorry for the info and situation.
Peeps should deff make sure their system is properlly ready and equipt to host a specific type of coral before buying. For new tanks and hobbiests....SPS is not your best 1st choice when it comes to coral. Try some softies or zoas and I bet you will see better results to help you get a hang with it and progress from there.
