I know this isn't the best picture, but I hope someone can tell me if this is a nuisance algea i should get rid of... and how to get rid of it if so.

I am cycling my tank with mostly dry rock. I visited a local lfs All pets and they recommended i add some live rock. I really did not want to since i was worried about unwanted hitchhikers, but i ended up adding one 4lb live rock. Here is a pic of something greenish growing on it. If anyone could help with ID that would be excellent. Thank you in advance.

That is what i was worried about. I will try to move the rock to get a better picture tomorrow. What is the best way to remove it? The rock is just sitting there so i can take it out to help me remove the pest.

Am i best just to get rid of the rock or is there a way i can remove the aptasia from it without killing all the other good life on it? Should I act quickly on this or can i wait a day or two? The tank is brand new and has been cycling for a week. There is no life other than this one rock. Here is my build thread.

Take a syringe with boiling water and treat the pest directly, you can also lemon juice. I prefer Kalkwasser, but unless you have any that does not do you any good.

I would just take the live rock out and let it cycle, in my experience it didn't take long and I didn't have to worry about unwanted pest.

I moved the rock right under my LEDs. This definitely does look like aiptasia. I removed the rock and poored boiling water on the spot where the aiptasia was. Even before that i touched it with a knife and it seemed to almost go inside the rock... i didn't know it could do that. I don't really know if I should even put the rock back into my tank. Do you guys think the LFS would take the rock back? I know it's just one little rock but i paid 32 bucks for this thing.

BTW Thank you everyone for your help.... how did people do this before the internet?

The other rocks at the LFS are most likely infested also. Using AptasiaX and the supplied syringe, feed the solution directly into the mouth of the anemone. It will be gone in a matter of minutes.

I highly dont the lfs will take it back they claim to many unknows in Saltwater fish ex. I would get it out if you can and go in use the rock
