Hi family,

I have a small frag of space invader, it’s been doing very well for the last month. The past couple days I have noticed a hard growth at the top and I don’t know what it is? I could use everyone’s expertise. My tank is doing great and all my other corals look very happy and healthy. Sand is very clean, already been through my bad cyano days. Tank is pretty much cruising. Which is why I am very curious about what this is. Unless it’s the coral growing which it could be because I have never kept this type before. It was added to a pack of corals I bought as

Pics without blue light would be better.

Looks like a glassy looking sponge

Looks like a sponge but with blue lights off will be easier to confirn.
What is a sponge, and are they hard? Because this feels like a rock. Can say with white lights on it looks the same opaque and just a bit clear.

Can be. Opaque and clear are opposites so can’t be both. What color is it?

If it feels like a rock it’s probably not a sponge. Skeleton is hard like a rock.
Ok so by what your saying would that mean it’s the coral itself growing and will have Color once it matures. Thank you

Chances are the corals flesh is receding from the skeleton. Normally the skeleton and flesh grow together. Corals won’t grow a Skelton first and then the flesh. With improving conditions the flesh can begin to grow and cover the skeleton.

Thank you, I might have to move it’s placement then. Because all the other corals are doing fine, might me to close to the light. Thank you for the advice

They prefer low to moderate light and moderate flow so it may be too high. Also keep it away from other corals. It has sweeper tentacles which can sting other corals.
