I’m new to owning a saltwater tank. I’ve had quite a few corals/creatures come from live rock that I’ve been able to identify but a few that I have not and was wanting some help. I have something that always pops out of the same hole and only comes out at night when the room is dark, If you turn on a light it goes back into the hole slowly. Having trouble identifying what it is. My hermits and emerald crab tend to stay away from this rock, is the creature harmful to my tank?

Hi! I’m new to owning a saltwater tank. I’ve had quite a few corals/creatures from live rock. Some I’ve been able to identify doing research online but some I haven’t been able to. I have one that’s really been hard to find, it only comes out at night and has 5-6 “arms” that come out of the same hole every time. If you turn on a light it slowly goes back into the hole. My hermits and emerald crab tend to stay away from this rock, could it be harmful for my tank?

It looks like the legs/arms? on a brittle starfish. Good hitchhiker, totally safe - eats leftover food and such
Thank you. That’s what I was originally thinking I’ve been sneaking a peak at it every night for a week and each time I see it it never has come out of that rock only shows his legs/arms so I wasn’t sure.

Totally agree. Micro brittle star. Score! They are a great part of the CUC. People pay good money for those.
