I have this red growth on some of the live rock in my reef tank. It doesn't look like an algae and it is only in patches on the live rock. I have attached a picture of what it looks like. Does anyone know what this is and I am also wondering if running GFO would help to get rid of this growth? Thanks for the help.

Could be an encrusting sponge of some sort. Most sponges are killed by being exposed to air. It could also be a funky algae or bacteria like cyano. The best way to fix that would be to lower nutrients by frequent water changes and gfo would also help.
