I need help trying to get my skimmer waste cup from filling up with water in a matter of seconds. This skimmer has been running great for a couple of months and operating correctly up until yesterday after doing a water change and adding some more coral frags. After this there is tons of micro bubbles in the tank and the collection cup fills with water in a matter of seconds. I’m sure either the putty and glue had an effect on this but here we are a day later and still doing the same thing. What can I do to get in to operating back like it did before? If it does this every time I add corals I will be looking for a different option for a skimmer. Has anyone else experienced this and if so what can be done to get it to quit. I can’t be emptying the cup every 30 seconds.

You need to adjust your air intake. If you would post a picture of your skimmer, I can give you some direction.

Has the water level in your tank changed recently? Sometimes, when people replace evaporated water to their tank, they add too much and raise the level in the sump, which would cause your problem.

Do you use Auto Top Off or do you manually add water?

A protein skimmer relies on consistent water levels.

As far as I know there is no adjustment on the air intake. And yes I have an auto tip off that keeps the water a constant level. Since I did a water change yesterday and added several frags it’s producing so many bubbles that it just fills the collection cup with water and starts to overflow. It worked perfectly pulling brown skimmate up until yesterday. I have done several water changes previously and never has it done this so that’s why I was thinking the putty or glue had something to do with this since I added these frags and before didn’t glue the frags that were in there.

Which model Innovative Marine Skimmer are you using?
Innovative marine NuvoDC skimmer that sits in the middle chamber of my Nuvo 10. Here is a picture if it helps. The water level is exactly where it has always been but now its producing so many bubbles so fast that it fills the collection cup with water and starts to overflow in 30 seconds. And the micro bubbles in my tank are crazy which it never did before. The only thing that has changed is adding corals yesterday and using epoxy and glue. I have done several water changes before and it has never done this.

I just looked at the user manual. There is a venturi air intake, but nothing that shows it can be adjusted.

Is there an adjustment to raise and lower the skimmer in the water?

No it just sits in the middle chamber with no height adjustment. I just lifted it up out of the water a set it back and now the bubbles have slowed down considerably so maybe it will start working like it did otherwise I will be looking at getting an Esphopps nano skimmer and selling this one. I’m still curious if the glue and epoxy had some effect on it being such a small volume of water.

For it to go overactive so suddenly, I feel like something may have been introduced to the water. I've had this happen to me, but its usually after feeding.
