Okay. Mixed 3.8Gallons using 3Tsp of Brightwells Kalk+2. Solution is clear. Ph reads at 12.2. I have the ability to push the Kalk through a DOS unit all day.

Tank volume about 90Gallons (RSR350)
Last Calcium: 420
Last Alk: 8.4
Currently dosing tiny amounts of 2 part
Low demand. 1 monti cap. bitty birdsnest. Fist sized acan. Golf ball hammer. zoa frag and GSP frag.
Using kalk to raise ph, hopefully ward off some annoying cyano with the higher ph, and pump up the coraline.

I can't really decipher how many ML a day I should start this experiment at. The ph effect is supposed to be powerful and the buffering effect is weaker than 2 part. I want to start small and avoid swings. I'd rather keep it away from my ATO because it's going to cause a problem eventually. I'm an absent minded reefer sometimes lol.

Thanks in advance.

Start slow and measure alkalinity frequently to determine the amount of kalk. Very roughly, 1 ml of 2 part in my system is equal to 50 ml of saturated kalk.

If I'm dosing 12ml of alk and 18ml of calcium per day and stay steady, would you say 100ml of kalk over 24hours is a good baseline? What's your system volume?

this calculator is amazing

I would recommend making saturated Kalk (2tsp or 6g per gallon) and then dosing according to the calculator. based on your tank (roughly 300L of actual water volume) 260mL of saturated Kalk will raise the dKH by 0.1.

Measure your daily alk consumption and go from there.

You're awesome. Thank you for doing that. I had seen the saturation ratio before but the instructions on Brightwell's says 1 Tsp/gl for some reason. More dense maybe? Iuno.

you're welcome!
hm, no calcium hydroxide is calcium hydroxide lol. I don't actually measure it, I just add 2 teaspoons into a gallon jug and whatever is excess just won't dissolve, ensuring a saturated solution.

just make sure you're using pure RODI water to make your solution

Alright so- tested the Brightwell Kalk+2 solution again to make sure ph was at 12.4

Started way down at 150 ml over 24 hours. Over 3 days of watching the numbers, I'm now at 500ml over 24 hours waiting to see a result or movement in either alk/calc/ph.
