Help with killing palys and using carbon

The hammer coral that is near the palys I'm currently killing is not looking great and I was wondering could I put carbon in a bag / or a carbon sponge filter in the tank near the dying palys to absorb the toxin or does it have to go in the sump?

My thought is that the palys under the blanket are releasing toxins in response to being covered and there is a localized build up. I noticed a release response when I put the blanket on there and I can't imagine they are any happier after 24 hours

It would be better to move it if possible. I recently removed my devils hand for the same reason.

You can put the carbon wherever you want (in an emergency I once dumped it loose into my sump).
