My tank looks incomplete fish wise. It's a 55 gallon reef.

Inhabitants are:

3 green chromis
1 dartfish
1 ruby red scooter
1 marine betta

A few brittle stars
Few peppermint shrimp
And snails

We are looking for a slightly bigger fish to complement the marine betta.

Thank you in advance.

I'm a newbie so I'm not sure I could advise you on what fish to get but I was wondering about your brittle stars. What kind do you have? I had my heart set on a yellow/green brittle star but the owner at my lfs today said steer clear. He says he calls them the Death Star because they'll eat anything in the tank that's small enough, including small fish. I believe he was saying it was specifically that particular breed. Have you had any issues with any of your brittle stars?

I've heard that the green brittle stars are evil, never had one though. I have a red/black, and a black one. They are doing great and are very peaceful.

Forgot to add that I do want clams in this tank.

The bass looks cool but I'm hoping for a slightly bigger fish.

Thank you though.

How about a nice flasher/fairy wrasse? Get a large super male.

Wrasses were a god suggestion. Getting a couple would add a variety of colors. Unfortunately, most fish that are larger need more swimming space or will nip at clams or possibly eat shrimp.

Most brittle stars are fine, but the green ones are very predatory.

Do all wrasses eat pods? I'm having a hard time getting my scooter to accept prepared foods.

Otherwise they are gorgeous and I never had one.

Someone had mentioned a Midas blenny, any opinions on that?

Harlequin tusk ,a school of blue line snappers, hippo tang, spiny box puffer or a lionfish. All the fish will leave your pods alone.

Fairy and flasher wrasses will eat pods in the water column, but rarely on from the rocks and substrate.

Scooter blennies may not take prepared foods, but can still be fine picking at pods.

A midas blenny would be an excellent choice.

What about a Long-nosed Hawkfish? They're unique looking, can grow up to 5" and have an awesome personality.
