So this is the return on my gfs tank. It's been running for 5 years and not sure when it started to have a small leak but here it is. Obviously I can't remove the bulkhead fitting and clean and replace with out draining tank so what would anyone recommend doing or not doing?

It does have very minimal amount of water on outside just dont want it to get worse

Use the epoxy putty that is used to mount frags.
Roll it into a snake and smush it around the fitting where the leak is.
Many years ago when I had a leak around a fitting on one of my pipes Home Depot gave me the same thing to seal it.
This was before it was sold for frag mounting.

It looks like it's in an overflow so you can replace the bulkhead without draining the tank. You might just need to re-seat it and not even replace it. You should also have a clamp on that tube.

If I remove that won't that open the bottom of the overflow up ?

That's in an overflow as stated above. Turn the return pump off. Once off. Go into the top of the overflow and pull up the drain dorso and the water will drain into the sump. Put a cup under the return in the picture and untighten the bulkhead and let the rest of the water go into the cup. You can pull up the return pip from the top to get better access. Dry glass with some paper towels. Get new bulk head and place a small amount of Vaseline or scuba grease on gasket before placing gasket down. Hand tighten bulk head ONLY. If you have the wrench tighten with hand and give 1/4 turn . Glue in your fitting like you have and replace tubing and put clamp on it as stated.

Ok so I never realized that the slits in front of the overflow don't actually go all the way through it's just the water running over the top. . . This makes things 100x easier. Stupid moment fixed. Thanks for the help everyone
