I've had this guy for a couple of months now. He opened up the first week or so, but I've been fighting brown algae, so he was covered with it and closed up. He hasn't opened up since. The flow wasn't powerful, but I now have a powerhead helping with that. The last couple of days I noticed these little white pieces of something on the base that look like pieces of rubble/rock, and today his stalk is turning brown, and it is not algae.

Can someone please tell me what I can do to save this guy. Thank you!

Here are the tank parameters:

5-gallon tank for 8 months
filter and Pico 180 pump
AI light setup
ammonia, nitrites both 0
nitrates 5.0 ppm
phosphates 0 ppm
calcium 440
KH 12
pH 8.2
Salinity 1.026
I have two clown fish, another leather, and one mushroom, zoa, and candy cane
Feed frozen mysis and Kent elements daily.

Move it around. Try a spot higher up. For more light.
And also try a spot with better stronger flow.

Very grumpy coral. Give it a few days before trying a new spot.
