I'm not talking about pH, which is very likely having spikes and falls. You are going to shoot your alk up really high, while calcium stays lower. Your are either going to/getting alk spikes, precipitation or a complete imbalance that will cause long term issues.

I see you joined this board last month. Guessing you have a new tank?

With all Due respect. I disagree and i'm very pleased @ The results useing Marine buffer which raises PH and maitains ph to 8.3 . To each there own.

Sorry, no. You can be happy with the product, and can certainly recommend anything you want,

But chemistry fact is not an opinion that you can simply say "to each their own".

ANY product that is formulated to have no effect on pH at pH 8.3 MUST be a relatively poor product at raising pH. There's just no debate about that.

To be formulated to not raise pH above pH 8.3 (their claim) the product will be mostly bicarbonate and some carbonate.

A product that was pure carbonate will have a bigger pH boost per unit of alkalinity added.

A product hat is hydroxide instead will have a much bigger boost to pH per unit of alkalinity added.

For someone with a pH ranging from 7.6 to 7.9 with alk already at 9 dKH (the OP), Marine Buffer is not going to solve the problem. Even these other products may not be enough, but they will make a much bigger pH boost.

Forget about it and move on . use what ever works best for you. "answer a question on this web site and reciemultiple incomeing" point of viwes.

I'm sorry if my comments conflict with your opinion, but this is my forum, and I ensure technical accuracy of every post, mine or others. When I disagree with folks, good debates often follow. That's how folks learn, myself included.

In part because of my moderating of the discussions, people come here for fact based information.

Hi Blake, don't take it like that. Normally it's simply frustration trying to deal with PH, that's all.

Randy can correct me, but some of us are lucky :) Some get upset when I say that but I don't say it to offend. The little I've learned in only two years is when folks say chasing PH can be a challenge, it really is. Some products work for some of us and if they don't, normally there are other products you have to use depending on what is causing the problem. The cause can be a number of things and you normally have to test to see what's causing it to really fix it. Some products may help temporally, if the benefits continue after a few months when you stop dosing, that's great.

And by the way, I'm glad winter has finally passed here is Michigan :)

My sincere apologies for voicing my opinion on what worked in my tank. Yes, I do believe people are here to learn and i'am most definitely not trying to mislead anyone, I also realize now that Carbon Dioxide in a closed room during the winter months had contributed to the PH problem. with spring being here in MICHIGAN, the windows are open which most likely brought the PH back to normal.

Don't leave just because someone disagreed with you or pointed out something you may not have realized.
Just about every topic you can think of has been debated here, multiple times. It's all good! We are all here to learn from each other. Especially from each other's mistakes. :)
