Yes, it doesn't appear to be an infection or bacteria or anything. It's the only cane coral I have so not that familiar with reproduction in them. Was wondering if anyone that has these corals could confirm or enlighten me.Even if that one head is in trouble, the others look very healthy. I wouldn't worry.
I've never noticed mine with a white fissure like that. I think it's probably not great. Could be wrong though. They are tough corals even when left to their own devices. If you want him to grow a lot, feed mysis. They can take whole mysis.Yes, it doesn't appear to be an infection or bacteria or anything. Is like that branch splitting into 2 and the pollup splits also?Pic a little fuzzy but appears to be a new sprout
I can't find any pictures online showing it. Maybe it's just a deformed branch?I've never noticed mine with a white fissure like that. I think it's probably not great. Could be wrong though. I would say deformity. Inspect each day for growth and any abnormalities.I can't find any pictures online showing it. Maybe it's just a deformed branch?
The one to the left is splitting. They will start to grow out of round and the middle will pinch between the second mouth until it eventually becomes two separate round polyps. Is like that branch splitting into 2 and the pollup splits also?
I can find any pictures showing this online with this type of coral.
how long does this process typically take? The one to the left is splitting. They will start to grow out of round and the middle will pinch between the second mouth until it eventually becomes two separate round polyps.
Depends how fast they grow, but on the order of months would be a reasonable guess once they start to pinch in the middle. The two in the middle on the bottom look like they split recently as they are individual but yet still fairly close together.how long does this process typically take?
thanks for the reply. Based on the visual I suspected it was some type of splitting but then also thought maybe it was an unsuccessful split that led to a deformity. I guess time will tell for sure.Depends how fast they grow, but on the order of months would be a reasonable guess once they start to pinch in the middle. Yeah, I can't say I have seen anything like that on candy cane coral before. Maybe the head got damaged some how. Is it a recent addition?thanks for the reply. Thanks for the info. I have not been able to find a similar situation online. I contacted the vendor also because of course their picture in WYSIWYG does not show this abnormality.Mine don’t spilt like that. I have one small colony with 4 heads and one with over 30. They spoil by growing a new mouth in the same head and then slowly growing apart. This is my big colony from last year. You can see the head on the right has two mouths. It’s starting to split. Yours looks like that head has become damaged. But it doesn’t look too bad and these guys are literally indestructible. I killed my big colony, like D-E-D dead, and they’re my best looking corals today. Took them about a month to recover but here they are.
That may be some other kind of coral hitchhiker. The color of the tissue should be the same as the color of the heads. At least on the candy canes I have. I’ve never seen the color you’ve got in person beforeThanks for the info. I have not been able to find a similar situation online. So the vendor, world wide corals says its a sponge? Anyone ever seen a sponge like this? Strange it is not depicted in their website advertising at the time of my order. That may be some other kind of coral hitchhiker. The color of the tissue should be the same as the color of the heads.
