My leather coral started to grow algae in the middle. it started when my heater caused my temperature to reach 90 degrees. The coral is now not opening and I think it is about to die. I have noticed little white rice looking things inside the coral that comes off. Today I did a water change out, I removed some of the algae on it but now its open. What are these white things and what should I do. All parameters are normal now. thanks.

Can you remove it from the tank? If so, take it out of the tank into a bowl of tank water. Brush the algae and fungus off with a soft toothbrush. Dip it in Revive or a Peroxide mixture for 10 or so minutes. Return it to your tank and blast it with flow. It has to have strong flow to slough off its mucus and debris.

The white grainy looking substance looks like exposed leather skeleton to me. I don't know if there is a bacteria that looks like that or not.

I'd say he was separating himself if it werent' for the algae growing on him, still may be separating though.
