Hi Everyone,

Got a new Acan and I have this issue... despite I'm not lucky with Acans at all, this one seems thriving but have this "lesions"...

I may be guilty not keeping a sufficient distance from a galaxea nearby , but cant believe was that really that.

In the photos the before (lfs) and after

Any idea on how to recover it?

Tnx

Params?

They don't need crazy light. So most likely water.

Galaxea are known for long and aggressive sweeper tentacles. I bet if you keep the acan further away it will recover.

I am having issues with acans in my tank too . Params are spot on and all the other corals are thriving . I have 5 acans in 5 different spots in the tank and they are all not puffy like I bought them and had them for the first 2 weeks. So I have been struggling to figure out what the deal is with Acans . Really confused on what the issue could be . I think I am going to experiment with taking my blue LED lighting down from 100% to 60% and see if they improve. But man what the heck acans why you gotta be so finicky ??

Lol they can be finicky, but once established they're pretty hardy :D.

This is an interesting read.. definitely not what I've experienced.

I'm not a huge fan of acans but I find myself picking up a frag or two when the LFS gets some new ones simply because I can't seem to kill them. knock on wood lol

I just keep them lower in the tank with decent flow and away from anything but each other.

what % lighting do you have on them ? and what is the flow like in your tank? Salinity?

Are you feeding your acans at all?

It definitely looks wounded (either stung or picked on by your fish), but it also looks starved to me. Acans love love love to be fed. They also like plentiful low-level light... so they don't want to be shaded, necessarily, but they don't want to be 3" away from a Radeon XR30 at 100%. So to be safe, move it further away from the galaxea, on the sandbed, preferably near one of the corners of your tank.

They also prefer lower flow.

Feeding corals still a challenge for me. Just bought Seachem's Zooplankton and start to spot feed my corals. Still not seeing the corals really appear to get the food at all. As the directions, I'm dissolving 2.5ml in some water of the tank and trying to spread around the corals. Am I doing right this thing?

Acan's don't really need special 'coral' food, and their feeding tentacles and oral cavities are large enough that you don't need to overthink it. If you feed frozen mysis to your fish, just try to get a piece of mysis in the center of the coral and it'll pull it in. If it's not used to being fed, you might need to do it after your lights go out for the night. But usually, when they sense food in the water, the feeder tentacles come out within minutes.

My opinion.... never never never buy a single head of ANY coral. Smthg to be said for the longevity and health of smaller colonies of 5head minimum

After fragging, all surrounding edges of a single head are "exposed".... too much stress when transfered from one tank to another.

Thank you. Will try that...
