I have a 40b set up that I want to put into a 75 gal tank by summer time. It’s not drilled, really don’t want to drill it either (would like it drilled, but long story why I don’t). So I bought a kollercraft rp3 overflow that I’m using. I’m going to buy new sand, transfer all my rock work and water. Then fill the rest with fresh saltwater. Do I need to acclimate the fish again or just move them? Also would like to know about a sump, I know bigger is better but what would be the minimum sump I could use? I would like to use a 40b, but width is the same and won’t fit. 75 g = 48”x18”x21” / 40b = 36”x18”x16”

The need to acclimate the fish if there is a temperature difference between the water put in and what the fish are in. Always good to acclimate regardless though. The sump size doesn't matter that much so long as you get the largest that will fit in the stand. I have a 30 gal sump on my 125gal tank. I added a 15-gallon separate fuge. Has always been plenty for heavy SPS mixed reef. That's my 2 cents.

As stated above, I would go through a full acclimation process. There's any number of variables that could be different between the 2 tanks, so it's always better to play it safe. If the difference between a successful transfer and a bad one is an hour or 2 of dripping, it's worth it.

In terms of sump, I'm a big proponent of going as big as you can fit. I would say on a 75 that you'll probably want atleast 30 gallons just to afford you space for equipment

I agree with these guys [emoji121]️

I would also strongly recommend drilling the tank.

Yes I would love a drilled tank, it’s so much cleaner. But can’t do it on this tank. Another question: I have 2 tanks a 40B & 20L, in those tanks I have a pair of clowns each. Would I be able to put both sets in the 75g together, or would there be problems?

I would definitely anticipate aggression. It's possible they won't, but more likely that they will fight. Are they the same species?

Not quite sure, I think there all false percula. One is a snowflake clown.

Would I have to cycle again? I don’t think I would. (??)

Yeah, they all look like ocellaris (false percs) with those black eyes (percs have a more gold color). Those 2 big females are likely going to go a few rounds.

In regards to cycling, since you're using established rock and not increasing the bioload immediately, you shouldn't see a major cycle. If you're going to add more rock to the tank additional to the existing rock, do it in small amount to prevent any spikes. Also, take this opportunity to really rinse out your rock in a bucket of clean salt water. Getting rid of much of the detritus built up in the rock pores will also help keep your nutrients low while your sand gets up and running. Also, I'd dose a little microbacter7 or one of its like to help with the process.

2 females??? They been together now for about 6 months shouldn’t one be male and female by now? They had their issues when I first put them together, but now they hang out all the time.

You said you had 2 pairs you want to mix? So there will be 2 females and 2 males

I was also wondering would it be a good idea to put sand or miracle mud in my refugium (or can I leave it empty?). Also wanted to know if a 20 long would be to small for a sump? That’s kinda the only tank I would be able to access under my tank.

Hey sorry I must have missed your previous question in my feed.

I would expect the females to be the aggressors. In a wild group there's usually multiple males per female and one dominant male per female. So, depending on the maturity of the males, you may have some degree of aggression there, as well.

Add to the bare bottom vs miracle mud in the fuge, you'll get varying opinions on here. I've never used miracle mud myself, and run my system bare bottom. I figure it is going to build up muck on its own over time.

Also, in terms of size, I always say if you can fit all the equipment you want in a sump, it's big enough. Unless it's a really big sump, I would't worry too much on volume.
