It appears to be a modified Durso drain. I say modified because it looks like someone added additional holes on the side that shouldn’t be there. Research Durso drain systems to see how they should be properly set up.
Alternatively, a “full syphon” drain system such as a Herbie or BeanAnimal would be nearly silent. You would need additional drain pipes, however.

Without trying any modifications you could in small intervals turn down the flow and see how low it needs to go before it gets quieter. Other than that your gonna need to do some modifications as mentioned above to quiet it down to a tolerable or silent level.

So would you guys just recommend building a whole new durso drain ? I don’t want to mess around with adding much new pipes since I’m new to this big tank
Thanks for the help !

How much flow is the return pump rated for, how much water is flowing down into the sump? Without doing any modifications the easiest and quickest way is to turn down the flow from the pump and at some point it will quiet down, when you get to the point that it's quiet enough for your liking and the flow seems sufficient then your dilemma is solved. If the flow has to go down to a trickle to quiet it down then your gonna need to modify the pipes to achieve a quieter system.

Turned the return pump down just a little and it’s almost silent, thanks so much !
