Hi all,

My Redsea XL 300 tank is fully cycled and stocked with a pair of clows and a foxface (low bioload). I today plugged in my protein skimmer for the first tine and cannot stop it from having water shoot straight up the cylinder and into the overflow. Have tried adjusting both water controls. and the air valve and no luck. Have also tried raising the protein skimmer in the sump by 2 inches, again no luck. Any help much appreciated!

First and foremost, the water level needs to be around 8-8.5" in the sump. Second, you need to get the water level set first before adding air - so close the air valve all the way.

Adjust the main pipe until the water level is 3-4" below the neck, and then use the secondary open/close valve to fine-tune as needed. Then open the air valve so that you have maybe a 1/16" gap with the black screw.

As a new skimmer you'll get a lot of foam initially, so expect to empty the collection container more frequently as it take a few days to break in.
