Hi guys I'm new here
just had my 40g tank set up for 3 months. Most of my corals look great, however I'm worried about my open brain coral. I bought it a month ago from LFS, and since first day it's been always shrunk like this
It does puff up a little during daytime but some of its skeleton can still be clearly seen, and at night it gets much worse... I was worried that it's dying but there's actually some very thin translucent tissue wrapped around the skeleton though I'm not 100% sure cause it's really difficult to see... Also I've never seen its tentacles reaching out at night. I constantly try to feed it by dropping some pellets on it, but it doesn't react at all, and the food got robbed by my crabs or shrimp like in the picture
. The interesting thing is that other open brain corals in the LFS look pretty much the same or even worse, and the guy in the store said they've been like this for many months. I don't think it's normal though, the coral looks unhappy and will probably slowly die if I don't do anything. Could anybody help? Any advice?
My tank: 40 gallon
salinity: 1.025 - 1.026
temperature: 78F
nitrate: 10-20
Ca in normal range, but low in alkalinity and magnesium, and I'm dosing both daily to slowly raise them up
Also, I bought a war paint scolymia online and just got it today. It looks great but I noticed that two sharp bones pierced its tissue and stick out like a spine
I think it probably got hurt during the transportation or whatever. I fed it some pellets and it ate them all. Will it be ok? Should I do anything to protect the wound?
