We've had this bta for ~8 month and recently we decided to start feeding it a larger quantity of food at a time in the form of half of a 2-3" long pilchard. It sucked in a little bit for a few days and now it appears to be extruding it's mouth/anus. Is it just pooping more than we're used to seeing or is something wrong?

Too much food. I would cut back to what you were doing before. It’s just getting rid of extra that it doesn’t want.

I don't really like feeding fish to anemones. More often than not, the volume of food is too much for them to digest so they will expel a good portion of what you give them partially digested. Worse, people have had issues with rotten gut contents in frozen fish causing issues (anecdotal/not proven).

Most research shows most wild anemones eat planktonic foods like brine or mysis more often than whole fish.

Hmm maybe we'll need to go back to feeding mysis then. I'd read about people commonly feeding their BTAs small fish rather than feeding bring or other small foods. The fish was quite fresh and was wild caught within a week of being fed to the anemone.

Either Mysis or I use a cut up Raw shrimp.
