Ok I had my tank drilled for 2 holes 1-1/2" each, i had a cpr aqrylic overflow box siliconed to the glass, there is just enough room to ge the 1-1/2 street elbow in there and the after messing with all day the box popped off.

So Is there a decent way to still use this set up minus the box? Main goal is to keep the water level above the trim so you dont see it( the water below the trim)

I was going for the bean overflow idea but it didnt work so well.

Also I only had 1 of the drains going into the sump and it was like a firehose in my sump.

This with dual 1" returns and I tried a mag 18 and also a reeflo external pump 3500gph dialed down.

I'm almost to the point of just plugging the holes and using hob overflows

Don't go with hang on overflows. Just clean off the old silicone from the box and where it was glued to the tank and re-silicone it.

Well the issue I am having with the box, is the elbows hardly fit, so I was looking at the glass-holes.com overflow set ups and they dont use any thing inside the box, how would it be silent?

It looks like they just drill a hole in the elbow behind the glass and have a airline in it?

Has anyone used this set-up style before?

Several people I know and myself have done this version of the coast-to-coast and they became mini algae scrubbers. They grew algae fast and clogged. Just a heads up. My last diy tank I used an external Durso drain just that that video with no fitting inside my very small overflow. I don't see why you can't just forget about fittings inside the tank and rely on your wier to keep out fish and your Durso to controll your drain.
