I decided to get an Auto Top Off. I also needed a reservoir, went to Walmart and got this "Sterilite EZ Carry" container. It's recycle rating is graded a 5.

  • Is it safe to use this container for an ATO?
  • Has anyone used this container or the brand before?
  • In the long term will it affect my tank?

I just looked online, and no where does it say it is "food safe plastic" so I might be a little concerned about leaching something into your ATO water.

Try and use food-safe containers. I personally use a dog food container that is made of food grade plastic.

Also use a dog food container. Has a screw on lid and holds somewhere around 12-15 gallons.

Ok thank you for the info, definitely will look for a dog food container.

Don't click that Walmart link folks....it's just bait, no link to product.
lol, what? Oh, I didn't notice that, why does that always happen? Every time type a company's name, store's name, etc. it always leaves a link....

Walmart, eBay and others do it. I'm not sure why but I passed this on to the higher ups.

I used one of those Sterilite containers for an ATO reservoir for about 6 years. No problems here.

Ok thank you for the info, definitely gonna use that Sterilite container i just bought.

One thing to do is check the tds when you first fill the container and then in a few day or preferably a week. I saw my tds rise on a cheap sterilite container several years ago.
