Setting up new 125 G Tank/Sump that has 2-1/2" Bulkheads and 1-1' bulkhead. OK to use 1/2" for return pump to tank and 1" for syphon into sump and 1/2" for emergency drain?

Cant redrill holes so looking for ideal plumbing with current bulkheads.

Thanks...Mark

Can u change the buck head too 1 inch?

The 1/2" as a emergency drain wouldn't be able to keep up if the 1" got clogged.

True...but I was putting flow meters on all lines so if main one slowed down or emergency flow increased, I would know.

I also ordered APEX and figured I could put a high level in tank sensor to shut off return and low level would do the same and email, me etc...so any scenarios had backup to catch.

I was worried about using 1/2' for main drain since only like 200 GPH flow...when I am supposed to have like 1000 GPH on a 125 tank.

Thoughts?

Well if you can't drill the 1/2" hole larger, go 1" up to it and 1" out the other side. If you keep your over flow covered it will keep the chances of it getting clogged.

Overflow has a cover so that will help as you mentioned.

My 30" cube I got used and it had a 1" and a 1/2" pre drilled. Using a the larger as the drain I ran another 1/2 behind the back of the tank and over, I have 2 separate 800gph pumps and I have dialed one back just a bit with a ball valve. It works pretty well.

I bought the larges size bulkheads I could get to fit existing holes.

The way I set up is 2 1 inch pipe. But. 1 of inch is open around 70-80%. At 12 inch of tank high Other one 30-40%. 20 inch of tank high. Test for 3 days soo far perfect lvl never run over and no bubble on return chamber. Requires gate valve
