Help with plumbing 40 breeder

So I’m thinking of setting up a new 40 breeder after picking one up at the dollar per gallon sell. My problem is even though I’ve owned plumped tanks they’ve always been second hand and I’ve never plumped one from scratch by myself. What I was wanting to use for an over flow was an esopps prodigy M it’s rated for 700gph. After that I’m kinda lost I know I need a pump that will match that or less since I can put a gate valve but that’s where I start to leave my comfort zone. Any advice appreciated.

definitely get a dc pump so you can control the flow as well

That was the plan. Just not to sure as to what to do about safety drains like where to run them into the sump and where to put the gate valve. As well as all the other stuff.
