Help with plumbing

Does gate valve go to emergency(wider) or main siphon, home depot in my area only have brass gate valves, is that OK? The do have pvc ones
No brass. No metal of any kind.
PVC.
Gate goes on the main drain, the syphone. It will be tuned by closing until you get a full syphone, the maximum amount of flow in the pipe.

Check online, spears is the best but there are others. Be aware, Amazon carries cheap ones but they leak, I know, I tried.

Go to a plumbing store online. Get a name brand and you can't go wrong. Shouldn't be too much $$

To find tune, you really need a gate valve.
Ball valves are more for on/off, can't find tune them.

got the gate valve..50 bucks seesh. Now I just have trim the main syphon 5 inches like you said and test for leaks. Once I’m done Il secure everything

How do I attach pvc to the return pump? Is this what they mean by threading the pvc?

You can get a threaded adapter that size. Once side is threaded and the other side is slip, thich will let you hard plumb PVC right out of the return pump.

Watch that return line, you might want to secure that also.
So I got this far, but and the water moves fast with no leaks. But when the water leaves the drain pipe it’s makes a lot of noise. Is it supposed to extend into the water because it not actually in the water but above it

Into the water about an inch +-

whats the setting that i should be looking for? should water be going down both pipes or just main?
On a herbie style drain you want to open the gate on the main drain, close it slowly until you see a trickle going down the Emergency Drain. That's how you set it.
periodically, maybe once or twice a month, open the main valve a half a turn and then return it to where it was. This is just to clear any debris like food from the drain.
