I am getting my first reef tank up and running and i am looking for some advice on powerhead placement.

I recently purchased 2 Vortech MP10 MQD and have been playing around with the settings and where I want to put them.

the tank is a Red Sea 170 max e, AIO so placement on the back glass is not an option. i have read conflicting advice about where to place the two. Some recommend directly opposite, others have one lower on the tank and one higher up.

I would like this to be a mix reef eventually, so I’m looking for high flow higher in the tank for SPS and lower along the bottom for some LPS and softies.

looking for advice from others with cube tanks, as I know they present a different set of challenges than a standard rectangular.

I would keep one where it is and place the other one half way down the side of the class toward the front so one pushes water at the top and the other pushes water for the lower half of the tank that what im doing in my tank now if you leave them pointing at each other it wont do much in terms of flow

What I found helpful was to stir up the gravel a bit to make it easier to see the flow patterns. Keep one stationary about 2” below the surface and then move the other around until you find a spot that creates the right flow for your LPS & SPS. What works in my cube may not work for you based on our different rock work.
