Hey, so we just bought a house. I want to pump water from basement to 1st floor for a display. I have no idea what kind of pump to use. (Internal or external, size, power consumption, heat it will give off)all that and anything else I'm missing. So all you basement sumpers help a brother out:-)

Is this going to be used for water changes or for an actual return pump with a sump to display?

For water changes I used to use a mag18 to pump up to the display from my basement.

For a return need to know a few things.

Budget?

In sump or external?

What flow rate are you looking for?

Head height to determine actual flow rate?(need to know total vertical height length, total horizontal run length, all the fittings that will be used, and diameter of pipe/fittings)

The first thing you need to figure out is how many feet will the water travel, what size piping and how many fittings will be used. Then get an ideal gph number that you want to reach the display. After that you can figure out a budget for the pump and then you can go from there.

Ill will get this onfo and post when I have it. Right now its just a guestimate. Lol

And like most my budget after buying this house is as cheap as possable without it breaking in a year.

Also I assume ill want external to avoid too much heat.

I use an internal Danner mag24 that does a good job. My sump is an old tempered glass tank that I added baffles to so it cannot be drilled. It isn't the most efficient pump but it gets the job done. Found a guy on eBay that was selling them cheap, like $130 new in box, so I bought two. It's been running for about 8 years with no issues related to flow. Im running about 12' of head pressure.

I'm using a Panworld, been working for me for 12 years now no problems. (Knock on Wood)
