This “colony“ I’ve had for about 3 months with no issues, it actually sprouted a head earlier last week. But the past 2-3 day the largest head has been opening only slightly. As seen pictured there are some white dots on it. I would love some input or any knowledge on what it could be or what I need to do to help it. I’ve lifted it up and noticed black bugs. Any suggestions?

I literally took a year for mine to take off. I think most dont do well under a high spectrum. I moved my rastas about 10inchs below the water line in a low par area. I ignored them for nearly 3 months giving them time to heal from the light stress. Now theyre Better than before

Mine are about 12 under water line

i had my first two frags of rastas melt for no reason while the rest of the tank was thriving and finally the last 3p frag i got at macna decided the enviroment i created was worth of producing more polyps. That was augs and now i think i 7 total polyps. the same cant be said for pandoras or nirvanas .... whoa those seem to non stop grow

Looks like zoa pox to me too. Furan 2 dip regemine should clear it up.
Pay attention to your parameters and how much they swing. Stability is the key for zoa pox to go away.
Looks like the pox. Dip them ASAP.

Yup. Hmmm where have seen those Rasta before, oh yeah on the other thread were Pox was mentioned.
You should not see white pimples on zoanthids.;Bookworm

White specks can be okay in some instances actually. My utter chaos zoas and a sunny d’s were grown in a farm where they were sitting in the sand bed. When the zoas were forming the flesh of the polyp, they actually picked up some sand granules and it became a part of the zoa. It may look like the pox, but assured, it isn’t . These are FLAT where as pox is like a pimple. I’ll try to get a good pic when I feed them later :)

I was under the impression that palys do indeed show speckles of sand. True zoanthids like Rasta do not. IME.
Pics always good. :-).

+1 Yes, palys are larger and can include particles in their flesh. Zoas not so much.

How about this one ;Hilarious

Here’s one of two colonies...

*Side note...This colony is getting blasted with 275-300 par(verified). 7.5” under water. 21.5” total from lighting.

That is a beautiful colony! I see those acros growing next to them. The zoas don’t bother the sticks though?

I’m sure they have irritated a few sticks. But, it seems those few frags have grown faster upwards before encrusting outward and then up like normal. So I guess my answer is Yes and No. And on a good note I haven’t lost any where the two have been touching.

Dipped in Hydrogen Peroxide for 5 minutes. Is this normal??? The two open polyps never
