So I got this torch for $25 at the lfs about 6 months ago and it kind of goes in and out as far as being happy and fully extended, but recently one of its heads has had algae grow on it and is receded fairly far into the skeleton. When I got it the whole colony was covered in algae which I scrubbed off and 3/4 head have been recovering, but the one head is jacked. Anyone know of any fixes. It's not water issues because I have 3 other torches, elegance, birds nest, and montis that are all happy.

Unfortunately once torches recede I don't think there's much anyone can do.

So is it better to remove this head from the others or leave it and let it do its thing?

I would frag that head off as a precaution. But that's just my approach. Someone else may have another opinion

Yeah I'll see what others have to say as well. But I mean if it's a goner anyway, I may frag that head off and try to do some peroxide surgery because what the heck it right?

Best case scenario both survive if you do that or at least the non receding heads might

Try some ReVive before you hit it with the perox. 15 mins with an air stone and most of the algae should come off. I do 1/2 tank water and 1/2 ReVive when they are covered.

Yeah that's kind of what I was thinking but wanted other opinions first.

Do you have a link for the revive?

I have saved heads with less tissue then that. Assuming it doesn't have brown jelly rot I would brake it off and move it to a higher flow spot to get a little extra food and light. It was probably in a less then ideal spot for that head.

When I got the colony it was in pretty sad shape, most of it is recovering. Just trying to fix this last head. I'll try moving it. Gotta frag it first. Thanks.

If it has no obvious disease or pests on it, it is more then likely ok to break off and move. I would do a once over and look for anything eating it. This is not very likely if the rest of the heads are doing fine but you never know it can happen.
