I would like to know if anyone could tell me the best way to set up a wet/dry filter that a friend gave me. It is a CPR Aquatic CR500, one of the main things that I need to know is what size of a submersible pump I need to use to return the water to the tank and the best DIY overflow to get the water down to the filter.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is being used on a 125 gallon tank, I have other filters also but thought since I got this for free might as well use it. Tanks sits about 5 feet high and will put the filter under the tank inside the stand. Looks like the opening that pvc pipe goes into on the filter is 3/4

You probably wouldn't want a large return pump for that size sump. Especially if the sump is rated for 60g. For overflow, I'm pretty sure you can find a good one on YouTube.

IMO, I would not use a diy overflow. My first option would be to have the tank drilled. If that is a option for you, then I would look into a Lifereef overflow box. They are suppose to be the best. That will determine what size of return pump you can use.
