Help with skimmer

Can someone look at this pic and tell me why the inside of the body of our skimmer is brown and yucky looking like the skim isn't going all the way up into the collection cup?

Switching to an LED bulb with a tighter focus to put all the light for the refugium INTO the refugium will be a good start...


...but that sump is all-clear, so some light will still reflect into the skimmer chamber.

Maybe consider switching to an ATS so you can direct the light away from the skimmer chamber altogether instead of having to aim it down into the sump?

The light is a clamp light that sits above the chat area. It has been in the sump for a couple of months. The light isn't directly on it; but, it definitely gets some light from the clamp light.

Your light spill over is causing turf algae inside the skimmer body, no big deal but might degrade skimmer performance
