Recently purchased an eshopps x120 skimmer from bulkreefsupply and set it up yesterday. I know the usual go to response is "let it break in" but I'm sorry something is telling me this isnt normal. Can anyone offer any idea as to why there are so many microbubbles shooting out of the gate valve?

Sump Height is at 9" silencer air valve is basically closed.http://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/5b51162de6f62/20180719_184501.mp4

A lot of skimmers do that, it may get a little better when it breaks in.. If micro bubbles are not making it to your display I wouldn’t worry about it.

BTW.. welcome to R2R:)

Unfortunately break in period is most likely going to be the answer. Is this a fairly new tank as well?

I am not specifically familiar with this skimmer, but every skimmer I've owned, and it's been quite a few, I always open the air intake all the way, and adjust foam height with out-flow adjusting knob. Not sure if this will address your bubble issue, but that's how I do it.

Oh, and welcome to R2R.

I have almost the same skimmer(x-160).

Like mentioned above i would open the air silencer all the way. I would also open the gate valve just enough to seat. Each day for about ~10 days lower the gate till produces very dry skimmate. Just once a day takes a bit for any adjustments to a skimmer to show their total effect.

Then start closing the silencer for noise level.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and suggestions! I ended up taking it apart and screwing the diffuser plate back on, but not as tight, on top of the internal pump. This seems to have fixed the issue. Rubber seals weren't seating correctly.

Nice! Fixed the issue of bubble blaster door and have it at highest gate level and wide open silencer just like you mentioned. Working great. Still a little microbubbles in DT but I'll wait out out.
