Hoping to get some expert advice / guidance on the specs of a steel stand regarding size and thickness of tubing. Would like to stack a 90g on top of a 75g on something similar to the attached picture. Only difference is there would only be two shelves instead of 3. Bottom shelf would be 8'' off the ground and the top shelf would be 42'' off the ground if that makes a difference.

Was thinking 2''x2'' tube with 1/4'' thickness but would love to know if I would be ok with something smaller or thinner.

Thank you.

Does it have to be steel? You could always put something together with modular aluminum that's purpose built for supporting tanks?
Thanks Blaxsun. It does not have to be steel. Do you have any links to the modular aluminum stuff?

Need the gallons to calculate the weight. But I used 2x2x1/4 to build the stand for my 400g. Fully welded, as I'm a certified structural welder in both steel and aluminum for vehicles.
The white one is for the 400g in the fishroom. The grey is for a 320g on the opposite side of the fishroom wall, in my bedroom. Its waiting for the remodeling to be completed before I fill it.

This is my steel 120 stand before coating. I used 3x2 on the top and 2x2 for everything else.
For that pic you have you could do the same for both tops. Interesting design.

Thanks. Did you use 1/4’’ or 1/8” thickness?

1/4".
Also make sure all your ends are closed and not open as some do.
Open ended will allow the stand to rust from the inside out.
