Can anyone help me figure out what this is on the back side of my fish?

Possibly a tumor. Can you see a growth/mass just under the epithelium (outer skin layer)? Or does it appear to be more of an open wound?

Looks like an abscess or a tumor, to me as well. How long has this been growing?

Oh ouch :( I'm not sure what it is, but agree that tumor or abscess are the first things that come to mind.

If it's an abscess, there should be a pocket of pus (not a solid mass) under the skin.

are there any subcutaneous parasites that could look like that?

Not that I've seen or are aware of. I agree with the rest. Probably difficult to catch the fish and apply some gentle pressure there to find out if it's hard or squishy... probably not a great idea anyway.... but there isn't much you can do in these situations. You may try QT with antibiotics and hope. I'd throw the kitchen sink at it... kanaplex, metro and furan2
