So I noticed this for last couple of days… I’ve been battling with Dino… minor Dino and my nutrition has been fluctuating.. I’ve been correcting my nutrition with neonitro and neophos… I have carbon media running and dosing silica… does it look like it’s nitro swing or Dino toxic burn
1/25/23 NO3 5.2 phos 0.03

1/26/23. NO3. 4.8. Phos 0.09

hi there. I don't think anyone can answer that question without knowing your parameters. And even with the parameters the question is how is it trending which may tell you why. Example. You were at 7 dKh and spiked to 11 .. then you started having SPS issue. Then you can almost correlate it to the root cause. swings are bad for SPS.. especially Phos swings which may have caused it since you said you were dosing phos. Nitrate swings haven't done much damage in my own experience even when I take a 7 NO3 to 20 NO3.

You may just have a single sps frag issue if it's not happening across your tank. Acros can be picky.

Your nutrient levels likely bottomed out and the dinos are releasing low level toxins. In addition you may be having alk spikes or ca level elevated. I would not dose the neo products and hold off- Here is why. . . . . Im not seeing dino for starters. And with your levels, when we see zero readings, automatically we assume this is the cause but by the time you see zero numbers, its because the dino has consumed the po4 and no3 and are multiplying and in turn many dose no3 and po4 to bring numbers up not realizing they are feeding these flagellates even more.
Its biological deficiencies that are causing the dino structure and tank is already doomed.

Sorry forgot to add my parameters

Those fluctuations aren't too bad and likely within the tolerance of the test kits assume you take them approx. the same time on those days. Except for that zero on the PO4, I don't see any issues on your parameters. That zero bottom may have caused dinos as called here somewhere, but you might just have a sick frag. SPS can be frustrating where they look great than all of a sudden RTN/STN because you look at them funny one day.

I agree you should stop dosing though since your numbers are fine. Just make sure you rule out test errors. I've gone down rabbit holes myself with chasing NO3 and PO4 numbers with daily testing exactly at noon. There were some days my testing showed a whack number then I take the test again in 30 mins and it was fine. i.e. test error. Keep that in mind and don't take quick action.

It has also been said that what you're seeing on your coral now is likely a result of some event days/weeks back and it's finally showing up. Another reason not to take immediately action. Good luck.

Just try to keep tank stable. If u have swings it’s not good for sps but if it’s one coral I would not go chasing numbers. I Nvr dosed anything other than 2 part and Mg. Esv. Just feed the fish and the fish will feed the corals. Water change to help correct and replenish trace.

last few responses are spot on. Never go chase a solution for a single coral which may impact the rest of the tank. You likely just got a sick or unhealthy frag. Keep it in as stable water as you can and hope for the best. If the worst happens and you lose it...at least it's just the single frag and not the rest of your tank. If you want, you can try and frag off the dead pieces to see if it'll stop the spread. Good luck and happy reefing.
